Sam Battersby

Sam Battersby (she/her) is a yoga teacher, writer, and founder of Salt + Sage. Her journey with practice began in high school, when meditation gave her small but meaningful moments of peace in an overcommitted life. At 18, after surviving cancer and two strokes, she turned again to yoga and meditation not as a discipline to perfect but as a way to release control and begin again.

In her early twenties, as she struggled with addiction, burnout, and disconnection from her body, Sam returned to stillness. This time, the practice stayed. It supported her through sobriety, motherhood, miscarriage, heartbreak, and growth. Today, yoga and meditation remain the framework she leans on to meet life with presence and compassion.

Sam’s teaching emphasizes that practice is not about how it looks but how it feels. Through private sessions, group classes, and affordable community offerings, she creates space for students to feel grounded, supported, and more like themselves. Her guidance draws on both study and lived experience, with inspiration from teachers such as David Swenson, T. K. V. Desikachar, Eknath Easwaran, Thich Nhat Hanh, and Susanna Barkatari.

Beyond teaching, Sam is a writer who explores the intersections of healing, spirituality, and daily life. She is passionate about helping others discover simple, lasting practices that nurture body, mind, and spirit. When she is not teaching or writing, she can be found with her wife and children, building community in her new home.
